NX40 Model Selection
This page helps you select the correct NX40 module variant before starting PCB design.
NX40 variants are selected mainly by two hardware decisions:
- Antenna type
- External Flash requirement

Antenna Selection
Choose the antenna type before PCB layout.
| Option | Use When |
|---|---|
| Chip antenna | The product can provide proper antenna keep-out and module placement |
| External antenna | The antenna must be placed away from the PCB or outside a constrained enclosure |

Antenna selection affects PCB placement, enclosure design, RF validation, and production testing. Decide this before routing the board.
Flash Selection
| Option | Use When |
|---|---|
| 32 Mbit SPI Flash | Firmware or application requires external storage or additional memory margin |
| No external Flash | Firmware does not require external storage and the design should remain simpler |

Firmware configuration must match the mounted Flash option. A firmware image configured for external Flash may fail or behave unexpectedly on a no-Flash model.
