AS-611Bn FAQ and Troubleshooting

Does the USB-C connector carry data?

The supplied manual says the USB-C connectors supply power only. Use UART or BLE for measurement data. GPIO is listed only as input/output; a measurement-data function is not defined.

Why is there no UART output?

Check the power supply, common ground, TX-to-RX crossing, 3.3 V logic level, selected serial port, and terminal configuration. The documented default is 460800 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control.

Why are the characters unreadable?

Possible causes include a baud-rate mismatch, incompatible electrical levels, wiring problems, or noise. After the baud command, reopen the port at the new rate because the module is documented to reboot.

Why does the command not work?

Commands must be lowercase. Obtain the required line ending for the installed firmware from the supplier; the supplied manual does not define it.

Why does my application mistake the boot banner for a target?

The boot banner starts with #, the same start character as distance data. Validate frame length and numeric fields, and explicitly recognize the approved boot/status frames.

Why do I receive #0!, %0!, or @0!?

These are documented no-target frames. Check the configured range, sensor direction, obstruction, and target/subject placement. The manual says they are sent every 15 seconds while no target is detected.

Why are there too many distance targets?

Reduce sena, narrow zmin/zmax, remove nearby reflectors, and check the mounting angle and enclosure. Higher sensitivity can detect weaker objects but also more clutter.

Why is a small distance target missed?

Increase sena carefully, reduce clutter, narrow the detection zone, and compare pmode options using the same target and test geometry.

Why do vital-sign values remain in moving or calculating state?

Use one person only, face the radar toward the chest, remove obstructions and nearby motion, and remain steady for more than 20 seconds. Reduce zmax when strong reflectors exist behind or beside the subject.

Can AS-611Bn measure two people's vital signs?

No. The supplied manual documents one-person vital-sign detection and warns that additional people can reduce or prevent correct detection.

Can it measure animal vital signs?

The detailed function section supports only human vital-sign detection. Animal sensing is not established for this model by the supplied manual.

Is AS-611Bn a medical device?

The supplied manual does not establish medical-device certification or diagnostic performance. It is not sufficient evidence to classify the module or validate a medical application.

Why does BLE disconnect after changing a setting?

A baud change is documented to reboot the module. For other settings the manual is inconsistent about pause versus reboot. If a disconnect occurs, reconnect and re-enable notifications; do not assume every setting has identical behavior.

Which BLE characteristic should the app write?

In Nordic UART Service the client writes to RX (6E400002-B5A3-F393-E0A9-E50E24DCCA9E) and receives notifications from TX (6E400003-B5A3-F393-E0A9-E50E24DCCA9E). Confirm the module's discovered properties and permissions. See UART and BLE.

Are settings retained after power is removed?

The distance section says settings are stored in non-volatile memory; baud is also documented as saved. The complete per-mode persistence list is unspecified. freset is described as a cold reset, not a documented restore-to-factory-defaults command.

Why is a range command rejected?

The limits depend on each other: zmin must be at least 25 cm below zmax. A new minimum can be invalid against a saved maximum. Follow the intermediate-minimum sequence in the guide for the selected mode, and check each command before proceeding.

Why does a vital frame not match the stated byte count?

The supplied manual's labels disagree with its field layout. The simple pattern sums to 11 bytes, while the waveform pattern sums to 15 bytes. See the frame-length comparison. Confirm raw firmware output before choosing strict parser lengths.

Illustrated checklist for troubleshooting missing radar data
Read checks in numerical order 1–7, not by the drawn arrows. Step 6 means lowercase commands and the correct line ending; “Lowercase covid” is a typo. A boot banner confirms module-to-host reception, not the host-to-module command path. View full-size image.

Where should I report an undocumented response?

Record the product SKU, board revision, firmware version, connection type, power conditions, exact command bytes, raw response, timestamp, and reproduction steps. Do not discard or reinterpret unknown frames.
