AS-BW Quick Start
Use this guide to assemble an AS-BW with a radar module, prepare the site network, provision connectivity, and verify data before completing installation.
Before going onsite
Confirm all of the following before installation:
- A 2.4 GHz SSID is reachable at every installation point; AS-BW does not support 5 GHz.
- Credentials will remain valid on installation day.
- The network does not block the device with a captive portal, MAC allow-list, or client isolation.
- You have the deployment-specific Wi-Fi and MQTT settings sheet from Ingenious.
- The current AS-BW firmware, BLE configuration software, and viewer are available.
If usable 2.4 GHz coverage is unavailable, stop and raise the network design with Ingenious.
Assemble and verify
- Assemble the unit. Install the radar module and AS-BW in the enclosure on the supplied ceiling bracket.
- Connect UART. Wire the radar to AS-BW and share ground.
- Size the supply for both modules. The heaviest documented pair is AS-613 at up to 1,000 mW plus AS-BW at up to 700 mW. Include startup headroom.
- Configure over Bluetooth. Use the BLE configuration software supplied by Ingenious to enter Wi-Fi credentials and MQTT parameters.
- Record identity. Map the AS-BW MAC address to the bed number.
- Verify with the viewer. Confirm operation before leaving the room or replacing the ceiling tile.
Provisioning gap: The exact SSID/password workflow, access-point behavior, DHCP or static addressing, ports, firewall rules, NTP, and TLS settings are [TBD]. Obtain the deployment settings sheet before going onsite.
Network behavior
| Link | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth 4.2 | Configuration only |
| 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | Network transport |
| MQTT | Radar-data transport to the deployment broker |
| MAC address | Device identity on the server |
Per-unit serial numbers are being introduced in addition to MAC addresses. [VERIFY]
Data forwarding
AS-BW forwards the radar module's output; it does not transform or analyze the payload.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Transport | MQTT over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi |
| Payload | Radar-module output forwarded unchanged |
| Device identity | MAC address |
| Broker address and port | Deployment-specific [TBD] |
| Topic structure | Deployment-specific [TBD] |
| Credentials, QoS, TLS, and LWT | [TBD] |
| Downlink to an individual radar | Requested, not confirmed as shipping [VERIFY] |
Do not invent MQTT settings. No common broker address, topic hierarchy, credential scheme, QoS level, or TLS policy is documented; these values are supplied per deployment.
InCare24 data storage and retention are under review and remain [TBD].
Troubleshooting
| Symptom or question | Action or answer |
|---|---|
Manual shows model AS_614 | This is a known typo in the AS-BW manual, not a different module. |
| Unit does not join Wi-Fi | Confirm 2.4 GHz is enabled, the SSID is visible at the mounting point, and credentials were written successfully. |
| Need to identify a physical unit | Use the recorded MAC-address-to-bed mapping. |
| Unit resets while the radar is active | Increase supply headroom for the combined radar and AS-BW peak load. A power-path revision is in progress. [VERIFY] |
| Need to send a command to one radar over MQTT | This capability is in development and not confirmed as shipping. [VERIFY] |
| Unit joins Wi-Fi but server receives nothing | Check client isolation, captive portal, MAC allow-listing, broker address, and broker port; escalate with the MAC address. |
| Need a retention period | Storage and retention are undefined. [TBD] |
